NASP News
Fall 2006
Debra Schwiesow, Iowa NASP Delegate

Dear NASP Member,

I am in Philadelphia this weekend attending the Delegate Assembly with NASP leaders from around the country. It is inspiring to be with my colleagues, and work with them to strengthen NASP and better serve our fellow members.

As the 2006-2007 year gets underway, I want to thank you for your membership and for your commitment to the profession. I look forward to serving as your state representative and will be providing you with updates on what is happening within the Association and the profession. I also invite you to communicate with me on how NASP might better serve you.

NASP just released an important publication and you will want to take a look at it. School Psychology: A Blueprint for Training and Practice III is now available online at http://www.naspcenter.org/blueprint and provides a guide to practice and training in school psychology. Please take some time to review the document as we hope it will impact the future direction of the profession and your own professional development.

You will also want to check out the latest edition of Interventions Online, a member-only compilation of NASP resources, on school-based mental health services. You can access it along with the early renewal bonus edition on suicide prevention at http://www.naspwebservices.org/source/Communities/communityHomePage.cfm?CmtyId=239.

Student members will find the newly released Recommendations, References, and Study Tips for the PRAXIS II Exam in School Psychology to be a valuable study aid. This document was developed by student members, and reviewed by trainers and practicing school psychologists. It can be accessed at http://www.naspwebservices.org/ScriptContent/resources/studentspage.cfm.

Please join me in extending congratulations to our colleagues in Oklahoma! On June 23, 2006, in Special Session, the Oklahoma Legislature funded a $5,000 annual bonus for Nationally Certified School Psychologists, Speech Pathologists, and Audiologists who work full-time in public schools.

I hope you enjoy your summer and I will look forward to being in touch throughout the coming school year.

Sincerely,

Deb Schwiesow
