NASP Delegate Letter January 2010

Happy New Year! I wanted to start the year off right by sharing with you the latest NASP resources.

NASP podcasts offer a convenient way to stay up-to-date with recordings you can listen to on the go. ‘In the Know With NASP,’ a monthly podcast, focuses on what’s new and noteworthy at NASP. You can find the latest edition along with two recent podcasts, Military Families: The Deployment Cycle and Home-School Collaboration, atwww.nasponline.org/resources/podcasts/index.aspx

While online, I encourage you to visit the NASP blogs and add your comments atwww.nasponline.org/blogaccess/index.aspx. A blog for graduate students was added this fall, and the ‘Early Career,’ ‘School Psychologists-On the Job,’ and ‘Response to Intervention’ blogs continue.

NASP has a wonderful new research webpage, available atwww.nasponline.org/advocacy/researchmain.aspx, which offers data about workforce, salary, and demographics; research evidence about the positive impact of school psychological services; fact sheets; and more! This is a valuable resource to use in advocating for the profession, supporting jobs and services, documenting evidence-based programs in schools, and providing resources for administrators.

NASP Delegate Letter December 2009

I am pleased to share the latest updates from NASP with you.

I am delighted to report that the U.S. House and Senate passed resolutions recognizing National School Psychology Awareness Week last month. Thank you to those who sent letters to their members of Congress urging support of the resolutions.

In conjunction with our four resolution sponsors and in celebration of School Psychology Awareness Week, NASP sponsored a Congressional briefing, ‘Positive School Climate, Student Wellness, and Improved Academic Achievement: Bring Out the Best in Students and Schools.’ The panel discussed how positive school climates, student wellness, and strong family-school partnerships promote school success. They also linked these issues to NASP legislative priorities, school psychology week themes of positive psychology, and strength-based programs.

NASP Delegate Letter November 2009

I am pleased to write to you again this month with more NASP highlights, especially as we celebrate National School Psychology Awareness Week, November 9-13.  The theme this year, ‘See the possibilities in you. We do!’ seeks to promote students’ resilience, optimism, and academic achievement by encouraging them to see the possibilities in themselves and their world. This is a great opportunity to focus attention on school psychology and the factors that contribute to children’s achievement and healthy development. I invite you to review the array of awareness resources available to members atwww.nasponline.org/communications/spawareness/index.aspx
