Trauma Sensitive Schools Training

Exploring the “What Works” and “Why”

Come to scenic Cedar Falls, Iowa, to attend Ms. Jen’s 2018 Trauma-Sensitive Schools Training. Ms. Jen’s book for educators will be published by Brookes in Baltimore, and she is excited to offer her very first Level 1 Training July 15-17, 2018, prior to the book’s release. This is your opportunity to learn from a leader in the movement to create trauma-sensitive schools and gain a sneak peak at what is to come in her book!

Childhood trauma negatively impacts at least one in four students in every classroom, every single day. Whether youth show behavior problems, academic difficulties, or a combination of both, all educators must learn how to better understand and meet traumatized students’ needs. In Ms. Jen’s Level 1 Training, educators, mental health professionals, caregivers, and other stakeholders will learn what trauma is, identify the many ways childhood trauma can impact students, and learn how to help students succeed. By exploring the “What Works” and “Why” when it comes to creating trauma-sensitive schools, you will be ready to implement new strategies that will help you help ALL kids. You will also leave with a committment to working together with colleagues in a way that honors your own need for self-care. Ultimately, this builds hope for educators, students, families, and communities.

Ms. Jen’s Level 1 Training will be held on Monday, July 16 from 8:30-3:30 pm. Breakfast will be provided and lunch will be on your own. Cost for the 1-day training is $99.

Ms. Jen is offering two different bonus opportunities in conjunction with this training so that your individual needs for extended learning and small group consultation can be met. Add on the *BONUS* pre-training from 3:00-5:00 pm on Sunday, July 15. In the pre-training, you will explore your personal “why.” Consider the *BONUS* post-training from 8:00-10:00 am on Tuesday, July 17 as well. In the post-training, we will discuss trauma-sensitive discipline practices. The cost for each *BONUS* add-on is $39. An optional self-care activity is planned following each add-on training for an additional small cost. Those activities are weather-permitting and based on local availability. Participants will pay the acitivity fee on site if choosing to participate.

Space is limited for all three parts of Ms. Jen’s 2018 Level 1 Trauma-Sensitive Schools Training, but it is especially limited for the *BONUS* trainings. Register early and come ready to join the trauma-sensitive schools movement!

Note 1: Advice regarding individual cases will not be offered at this or any other training. Furthermore, all examples included in Ms. Jen’s presentations and writings respect the confidentiality of past as well as current students and families.

Note 2: Certificates of attendance will be provided for all training participants. A document detailing training contact hours and specific learning objectives in relation to the role of mental health providers in creating trauma-sensitive schools is available upon request. Please consult this document as you professionally decide if CEUs are applicable in relation to your specific licensure requirements.
