NASP Delegate Letter November 2013

It’s November, and that means School Psychology Awareness Week is just around the corner!

School Psychology Awareness Week is here November 11-15, 2013! Celebrate the successful teams in your school by highlighting the many ways adults and children work well together. Teams come in all shapes and sizes and have a myriad of purposes. Partner with teachers to implement one of the Poster Activities found at http://www.nasponline.org/communications/spaw/2013/documents/Poster_Activities.pdf, share Teams Work bookmarks at http://iweb.nasponline.org/iweb/Purchase/ProductDetail.aspx?Product_code=N1313, or recognize students building skills through team work with the Student POWER Award at www.nasponline.org/communications/spaw/2013/student-power.aspx.

There is still time to save on your registration for the NASP 2014 Annual Convention at www.nasponline.org/conventions! Whether you’re looking to learn how to distinguish emotional disabilities from social maladjustment, trying to find ways to support grieving students, or brushing up on autism evaluation best practices, you’ll find sessions to help you at the convention. Register by November 20 and you could save up to $50!

Once you have registered for convention, be sure to sign up to be a Convention Mentor at www.nasponline.org/conventions/2014/events/mentoring.aspx. The Mentoring Program is always a highlight for attendees!

NASP recently participated in a historic roundtable meeting, LD Identification in the Era of RTI, MTSS, and Common Core Standards.  Read the press release describing the event and the plans for the development of related best practice resources here: www.nasponline.org/press/index.aspx.

Make sure you plan to join us for a live webinar, ‘Brief Intervention Strategies for Drug-abusing Students’, on November 6 at 3:00 pm Eastern. We’ll get tips from expert Dr. Ken Winters on how to identify the developmental issues that affect the motivation for youth to change, apply basic skills in motivational interviewing, and describe brief intervention strategies for adolescents suspected of abusing drugs. Visit NASP’s Online Learning Center at https://nasp.inreachce.com/Details/Information/ea09588a-59b1-402a-b241-e31ef7db46e2?ref=featured to register now.

Register for the 2014 DIY 5K Walk/Run—Come Together Tour, benefitting Life Pieces to Masterpieces (www.lifepieces.org/) during the convention. Registration: Pre-11/20: $20, t-shirt. Post-11/20: $30, shirt not promised. It’s DIY-style where NASP provides maps/directions, you walk/run on your own (or nab friends), when you choose. Small group walks/runs also offered. View this and more convention special events at www.nasponline.org/conventions/2014/events/special-events.aspx.
